Run faster, overtake and win over!
When I used to see other runners running, I naturally had this feeling.
But then I soon realised that it isn’t the way to peak performance.
How? Read on…
I want to do better than the others.
So during my runs, when I saw other runners, I naturally picked up pace and ran faster. Then overtook the person and felt happy with the achievement I have had.
It’s a natural human tendency.
We all have been brought up that way. The person next to you is your completion. See your friends are doing so well, why aren’t you? And the classic – Sharmaji ka beta story!
You have been compared, and all you knew was to compete.
This feeling of competition prevails in everything that you do.
And in my case, it was very evident during my runs.
But, whenever I overtook someone and felt happy; the happiness was always short-lived.
In no time, the person who I had overtaken would soon pick up his pace and overtake me. And if it wasn’t the same person, there would be someone else who ran faster.
One day it got me thinking – where is it heading?
That day I decided to compete with myself. I committed to being a better version of myself every single day.
And guess what? I could run better & faster with every passing day. Moreover, I thoroughly enjoyed my runs.
I have seen people getting into unnecessary completion – I want to run better than the other runners; I want to get more salary than my friends; I want to have a better car than others, and so on.
Where is it leading you?
It’s time to sit back and think.
And realise that the person you see in the mirror is your real competition not someone else!
